Twenty years ago I recreated an entire collection of fabrics from an old wooden weaving machine. This collection can now be found in households across all of France.

It all started in 1980 when I bought a huge lot of antiques, among which was a weaving machine and old pieces of fabric. I began researching and documenting the fabrics and discovered their origin. They had been used since the 18th century to cover cattle.

In Southwestern France, the ranchers were very careful with their cattle because it was their way to make their living. They covered the cattle with blankets called "mantes à boeufs" or "cattle coats." Those blankets were woven with linen from the farm. They were decorated with stripes of different widths and colors. The larger the stripes, the richer the farmer, and the colors represented different areas of the country.

Those fabrics had totally disappeared, and I decided to recreate them, respecting the traditional ways of fabrication. Today, this collection, based on the same criteria of quality, is a standard for fabrics. You can easily care for the fabric by washing them yourself, even by using bleach if necessary.

Please take good care of them. I hope you enjoy these fabrics as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
